A set of falls just a short walk for the beautiful home that the Gerhardts inhabited for a week, in Keene, NY (ADKs). This is part of the Ausable river. Doesnt get better than this!

Never hiked this small mountain that begins at one of my favorite places, Heart Lake and the ADK Loj. During the Gerhardt family vacation in Keene, we tackled this short hike and were rewarded with this great view. This is an easy hike, but you sure get a lot of bang for your buck. These beautiful, puffy clouds added a nice effect. More pics to come.

Took the pup down to seneca park for a hike. Its been quite some time since we've explored down there, and it was nice to get out and start to dream of summer and the adventures that lie ahead. This has become a frequent photographic spot of mine. I challenge myself each time to improve the capture of these falls.

Just outside of Grandma and Grandpa Bannister's home in Florida is a lake with this croc. This pic was taken only 20 feet out of the front door. This female kept a close eye on her little crocs (there were about 12 or so, probably a foot long.) My best guess is this croc was at least 6-7 feet long.

More of our High Peaks Adventure- our first ascent of the day, Macomb Mt. A challenging climb for sure. I've never experienced slides like this. Loose rocks, sand and boulders made it a challenge. The view from the top was spectacular. Marcy, the Great Range, Haystack and Skylight were just a few of the peaks in view.

This one is a pic of the view from our campsite on Eagle Point on Little Tupper Lake as the sun was burning off the morning fog. This lake is a must visit for all you paddlers, as it is quiet and loons abound. No motor boats are allowed on the lake also, so its super clean.

Another great trip to the ADKs with some good friends. 15 hours (9 am to 12:30 am- yes we hiked in the dark), 7 recognized mountains (4 being High Peaks) and 20 miles, all in one day. Awesome, challenging, beautiful, exciting... Bagged 4 more high peaks (Colvin x2, Blake, Nippletop and Dial) bringing my total of high peaks to 21. Almost to the half way point. The pics dont do justice.

It took a late (very late) night to do it, but all the strips are on the canoe, and we are pumped. Its still in the rough stages as far as finish work, but it looks awesome already. The next step is to sand and plane it, then the fiberglassing starts.

The girls even helped put in a strip.

The intricate weaving of strips to complete the bottom of the canoe has begun. This process is time consuming as each piece is custom fit and much more precise than previous strips. The canoe is really starting to look like a full boat and we cant wait till its complete.

Rob and I took our Thursday afternoon to drive down to the beautiful Naples area (just south of Canandiagua Lake.) We hiked up this awesome streambed and some waterfalls in the Hi Tor Wildlife Management Area. It was beautiful. I had some fun with the ice ax and Rob with his crampons.

I often forget about an awesome part of where we live. Just across the street and down the gorge is Seneca Park, a large park right by the Genesee River with tons of trails, quite and places to roam. I took Mookey there again this morning for some more "off leash" training, this time with the leash completely off. I couldnt be more happy with how good he did. And he loved it as well. He obeyed all my comands despite distractions like deer, squirrels and all kinds of stuff. P.S.- I know others grumble over such conditions, but I am excited that snow is here. and, notice the tongue on the first pic

So, I know that when I dont post anything on my blog(s), the world as we know it stands still. And I must admit, that it has been a ridiculously long time since I last posted, but life sometimes gets ridiculous too. So here are the pics that I alluded would be coming in my last post. This is from an AWESOME trip with some good buddies. It was so awesome that I was inspired to create a third blog (http://cloudsplitters.blogspot.com/)to track the 4 guys from this trip and our goal to become 46ers. A taste of whats to come...

As much as I wish that I could go to the Adirondacks more, I am sometimes forced to realize how lucky I am to go as much as I do. Memorial Day weekend I took a group from church (see post below). This weekend I will be venturing into the wild with some good buddies. Below is a picture of Mt. Marcy, the tallest peak in New York State, as seen from Algonquin, the second highest. In a couple days, I will be on the top of Marcy, looking across at Algon. We plan to do two others, bringing my total to 15 out of 46 of the ADK high peaks. We shall see what the return post has in store...

P.S. Thank you to my wonderful, awesome wife who supports, encourages and allows me to do these trips. I am so thankful to have someone like her that knows how much these trips bring such peace to my life. Thanks Babe!

This weekend I was able to lead the youth group on a trip to the Daks. We had a great time. Good weather, bugs weren't bad at all (this is usually the peak of black fly season) and lots of fun activities. We hiked mountains, went whitewater rafting on the Indian/Hudson rivers (sorry, not taking my camera on the raft) and did the usual camping things. I never grow tired of seeing and experiencing God's beauty.

Today, my partner in crime was Rob West, a fellow Houghtonite and new found friend and adventure buddy. We left Rochester at 5am to drive a couple hours to Niagara Glen (just over the border in Canada) to an awesome park chock-full-o-boulders. Sweet place. Check it out if you ever get a chance. We did a bunch of bouldering (climbing without ropes for all you non-climbers). Good fun; thoroughly roughed up our hands and pushed our physical limits.

The culprit is caught

For about a week now, at night, and in the morning, it sounds like a human is walking above the roof in our back room. After a while, hearing scrapping and scratching noises, it was obvious that some sort of animal was up there. After contacting animal control, who brought out a havaheart trap, and waiting for a couple of days, our little friend came out of our house and into the trap. Another trap is set in case there is more than one. Here's hopin there isnt.

I know all of you bloggers out there have not been able to sleep with the absence of any new posts from me, so to ease your troubles, here it is.
I love our new neighborhood. Just down the street there is a trail that leads down to Seneca park and loads of trails. Some of the trails go by the zoo. Ive been wanting to explore the area for a while and today was the perfect opportunity. It was a beautiful sun shiny day. The elephant was out. There was lots of action at the lake, and the trails went all over, some leading down to the mighty Genesee. Its a great park and I cant wait to explore with my bike when warmer months arrive. For now I will explore by foot. Here are some pics of the hike...

New Home

Well, we are finally moved in; moved it all in a couple hours on Friday. And what did I do on my first night of owning my own home... I slept somewhere else. I left after we moved it all in to take the youth from my church to Camp Stella Maris on Conesus Lake for our winter retreat, where our theme was "G.reat O.ut D.oors"- Isnt that clever... (the kids came up with it.) We learned about Creation Care... it was a good time and the kids seemed to enjoy themselves. Beautiful location and facility. I will soon post on the new home and our progress there. Love being a home owner!

Well, we just heard from our realtor last night that our offer on a house in West Irondequoit went through, and, pending everything goes well with the inspection, we will close Jan 2. Sooo excited. God has blessed our lives in so many ways lately. Our first house. Here are some pics, obviously with other people's stuff, but you get the point.

Had a great time in St. Louis this weekend for a Youth Workers convention. It was sweet: got to hear and learn from some really good Christian speakers, and some bands like Jars of Clay and David Crowder Band- amazing in concert. Also got to go up in the Arch. Now I'm back with a renewed passion and ready for great things.

4 Peaks!!!

Well... another wonderful trip to the great ADKs. Good friends, climbing mountains and havin fun. We braved the elements, and conquered 4 peaks, all in one day: Upper and Lower Wolfjaw, Armstrong, and Gothics. Didnt have the best of weather, but we had a great time anyway. That brings me to 11. 35 more to go!

STRIPS

Well, the time has come... we started stripping. Friday night we put our first strips on the strongback, and now with six strips, the boat is beginning to take shape.
